The QR code ordering app every home bar needs
You've got the sign, the dartboard and the bar runner. What's missing? Your own QR ordering app.
Arron and Kev have just launched Orders Up, which brings the big-chain table-ordering app to your home bar. You get your own web address, your own QR code and a printable table topper with your pub's name on it.
It started in a shed pub. Everyone was joking about how good it would be if the bar had a Wetherspoons-style ordering app. Arron, being Arron, built one as a present for his mate's birthday. That's how Orders Up became a thing, and how The Rusty Old Cock got its own app.
At the party it was a hit. "By last orders, half the party had asked where they could get one," said Arron. "They convinced us to launch it."
You name your pub and pick its look: a traditional boozer, a neon cocktail lounge, a wood-fired pizzeria, a smokehouse or a tiki bar. Guests don't need an app. They scan the code, the menu opens in their browser, and the order lands on your phone. You can put anything on the menu, drinks or food.
Every pub comes with a printable pack: personalised table tents, posters and QR codes. We can see those QR codes ending up on beer mats, or engraved on a plaque next to the sign. Go one step further and stick a cheap tablet on the bar as your order screen.
"The big pub chains have their ordering apps, so we thought, why not everyone? Now every shed can have one," said co-founder Kev Moss. "It's surprisingly satisfying when the first order hits your phone. It starts as a joke, and then suddenly you're laminating the QR code."
It also makes a cracking present. Buy one for a mate's bar, print the tent, wrap it, and they scan their own present on Christmas morning.
We love what they've done. It's a fun, genuinely useful addition to any home pub, and it gives your guests an easy way to order while you pull the pints. You've now got one question left: what are you calling it, and what web address are you grabbing?
